Madhuri shakes a leg with Ranbir

You just can't make a Bollywood film without an item number anymore.

And the latest to join the bandwagon is Madhuri Dixit, who has been supposedly chosen to sizzle up a catchy dance number in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. If rumours are to be believed, she will be seen sharing screen space with leading hero Ranbir Kapoor.

Since we know that Mads is one of the best dancers in Bollywood, and Ranbir isn't far behind in his performances, we're really looking forward to seeing them together.

Padma Shri: Bollywood Divas who won this Honour

$
0
0

Fresh from the global triumph of her film English Vinglish, when Sridevi’s name was recently announced for the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, the legendary actress joined an elite group of Bollywood divas honoured in the past. These actresses have not only ruled the marquee with their brand of magic but have also been the most beloved, most powerful and most celebrated women of their times and even today. With Sri being the latest recipient, it's a good time to look at the women in B-Town over the years who took home the Padma Shri:-

DEVIKA RANI: One of those rare Indian actresses who actually studied acting, Devika Rani was an alumnus of the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Royal Academy of Music in London. Along with her husband Himanshu Rai she started the famous Bombay Talkies studio starring in its maiden venture Karma. The film is still controversial for one of the longest kissing scenes ever on celluloid but it was her performance as an untouchable in the classic Achhut Kanya that immortalised this thespian. Many remember her as the first recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award but not many know that she was the grand-niece of Rabindranath Tagore or that she inaugurated the first BBC broadcast on short wavelength to India.

NUTAN: She still holds the record of being the oldest actress to win the Filmfare. Nutan had a rare talent of sinking into her character that drew directors like Bimal Roy and Hrishikesh Mukherjee towards her. Seema, Sujata, Anari, Milan and Bandini still declare her as of the finest actresses of Hindi Cinema who developed a unique 'natural style' of acting. While her contemporaries basked in the glory of glamorous characters, Nutan quietly played women who were realistic yet unconventional. Even when she played supporting roles, she ended up being the pivot. No wonder decades later a nostalgic Sanjay Leela Bhansali sighed, 'They don't make actors like her anymore.'

HEMA MALINI: The Dreamgirl of Bollywood, Hema entered the national consciousness in early 70s and remained their forever. With Andaz and Seeta Aur Geeta, she was a star and with Sholay a brighter star. Like Big B, Hema ruled the 70s with her mesmerising beauty and a string of hits with top actors from Sanjeev Kumar to Dharmendra. Her dominance was so strong that despite the presence of a host of other actresses, none could challenge Hema. Besides films, the diva lives for classical dancing and her dance school Kalakendra. Besides chairing the NFDC and campaigning for BJP, the actress also made forays into TV with Noopur and even turned director for Esha's film Tell Me O Khuda.

SMITA PATIL: The only actress who gave Shabana Azmi sleepless nights, Smita remains one of the iconic faces of the filmi movement in 80s dubbed as Parallel Cinema. With filmmakers like Shyam Benegal and Govind Nihalani at the helm, this powerhouse performer gave one classic after another such as Arth, Bhumika, Chakra, Mirch Masala, Bazaar and Mandi. Besides being a part of this New Wave Movement, she also balanced commercial cinema with hits like Shakti and Namak Halal. Smita was an active feminist committed to advancing women's issues in a changing India. We can only wonder what more she could have done if she had not died at the age of 31 due to alleged medical negligence while giving birth to Prateik.

REKHA: She is still the proverbial Ugly Duckling who transformed into a beautiful swan. As she herself says, it was after Ghar that she earned respect as a star and an actress. Rekha had the gift of being uniquely versatile and so she could be the carefree Manju in Khoobsurat and the pining courtesan in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. It was the latter role that seemed destined for her as she became the quintessential Umrao Jaan both in reel and real life following her legendary association with Big B. Known as the Greta Garbo of India, this current member of the Rajya Sabha still continues to fascinate the national psyche every time she steps out of her solitary house by the sea.

SRIDEVI: A recent list of 50 Iconic Actresses of Indian Cinema by CNN-IBN stated that while there are many divas, Sridevi will forever remain the First Female Superstar of Bollywood. The reason is elementary. Sridevi's blazing beauty and talent sent the Indian and the overseas populace into a hysterical frenzy unlike any other. From Tathaiya Tathaiya Ho and Hawa Hawai to Mere Hathon Mein and Morni Bagama. From Sadma and Lamhe to Mr. India and Chaalbaaz. Sridevi is still the longest running No.1 megastar of Hindi Cinema and in 2012 she also became the only actress to make a victorious comeback with English Vinglish. With a whole new generation now falling for this Indian Meryl Streep, Sridevi proves that some legends are truly timeless. No wonder this Chandni was Yash Chopra's ultimate favourite.

MADHURI DIXIT: She burst into the scene with Ek Do Teen and we have not stopped counting since. Armed with her trademark dance moves and that million dollar smile, Madhuri established herself as an inseparable part of our Indian culture. While the actress in her explored herself with Dil, Beta and Khalnayak, the divine danseuse took over in monster hits like HAHK, DTPH and Devdas. Her legendary looks captivated MF Hussain who not only painted her on canvases but created an entire film as a tribute to her in Gaja Gamini. Her comeback attempt Aaja Nachle may have failed in 2007 but the diva stands firm at Madame Tussauds smiling at her many admirers.

KAJOL: When bong beauty Kajol debuted in 91', she did not find too many takers. It was four years later with DDLJ that she simmered as Simran and rocked the world. Her pairing with SRK became box office gold and the pair have had several blockbusters like Karan Arjun, KKHH, K3G and My Name is Khan. Kajol also proved her mettle as an actress who could carry offbeat ventures like Dushman and even became the first female actor to win Filmfare for Best Villain in Gupt. A natural actress like her aunt Nutan, her fiery performances continue to light up the silver screen while her social work keeps her occupied in fields of education, cancer, widows and children

AISHWARYA RAI: The Most Beautiful Woman in the world can also claim to be a super actress and a super star. As Nandini in Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, she not only floored her audiences but also the director who went on to cast her as Paro in his epic Devads and later in Guzaarish. Her performances in Mani Ratnam's Guru, RGV's Sarkar Raj and Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar also garnered huge applause. One of the first Indian stars to make forays into Hollywood, Ash is a regular now both on red carpets like Cannes and at humanitarian portals like UNAIDS, Pulse Polio, Eye Bank Association and Smile Train. The Aishwarya Rai Foundation is also committed to do its bit for the needy.

Sonam Kapoor's Desire for 'Tezaab'

$

Sonam Kapoor is yet to gain popularity and critical acclaim from the Bollywood fraternity and the audience, but she does not stop dreaming of doing more and perhaps, better work. She mentioned that she's not a fan of the kind of movies that were being made in the 80's and 90's but one movie she'd definitely like to star in is 'Tezaab' which, originally starred her own father, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. The movie was declared 'hit'. Apparently, producers are trying to acquire the rights to the movie.

Sonam recently acquired the rights to Anuja Chohan's book (title has not been mentioned) in which, the protagonist is a female and dons a number of shades. Sonam feels that such characters will have more depth and be easier for her to play.

'Dil' Remake Without Madhuri And Aamir

Keeping up with the era of remakes, filmmaker Indra Kumar who also made the original 'Dil' starring the sizzling pair - Madhuri Dixit and Aamir Khan is all set to charm the audience with its remake. The idea occurred to him when he was in search of a good script but could not settle on any. However, in the remake, audience will surely miss the chemistry between Madhuri and Aamir as they are not being cast for the movie. Instead, Mr. Kumar is launching a debut male lead (name undisclosed) and re-launching his daughter, Shweta Kumar who had an unfortunate debut opposite Himesh Reshammiya in Karzzz (2008).

Indra Kumar is also behind several other popular movies such as 'Beta', 'Raja', 'Ishq', 'Masti', 'Dhamaal', 'Double Dhamaal', 'Grand Masti', etc.

When Aamir Khan spat on Madhuri Dixit

$

In an interview to Boman Irani on Star World's 'Achievers' Club', Madhuri narrated a fun incident that occurred on the sets of the movie 'Dil'. She said she and Aamir shared a fun and friendly relationship with each other and Aamir was quick to play pranks on the naive Madhuri Dixit.

She remembers a particular incident that occurred on the sets of Dil. It was when Aamir, on the pretexts of reading her palm and predicting her future, spat on Madhuri's palm. Aamir who was holding Madhuri's palm and trying to read it, first told her that someone was going to make a fool of her soon, and then spat on the outstretched palm.

Apparently, this was during the shoot of the song 'Khambe jaisi khadi hai' and Madhuri, mad from the spitting incident, chased Aamir with a hockey stick to give it back to him.

Cute, isn't it?

Koffee with Karan Season 4 - who would you like to see?

$
0
0

Rumours are currently rife that Karan Johar is currently planning Koffee With Karan Season 4, which will kick off before his next directorial venture. The ace directors talk show’s previous seasons caused quite a sensation in B-Town, with the scandalous comments made by the celebrities appearing on the show. The extremely popular “rapid fire round” brings out the funny (and bitchy) bone in everyone on the show, and the aftermath of each episode lasts for years.. Hopefully season 4, will be the most scandalous one yet. Who would you like to see in season 4? And in what combinations?

Here’s my pick: (full text below)

The pilot episode needs to have Katrina Kaif & deepika Padukone (just like we had Deepika & Sonam last season).

1. Tees Maar Khan *ing Salman Khan (with Appearances by Sohail, Arbaaz)
2. My Name is Balan *ing SRK, Vidya Balan
3. The Outsiders *ing Sunny Leone, Kangna Ranaut, Nawazuddin Sidiqui
4. From Boom to Dhoom *ing Aamir Khan + Katrina Kaif
5. Ek Main Hoon aur Ekk tu *ing Kareena Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi
6. Gen Next *ing Sonam Kapoor Varun Dhawan
7. Gen Next *ing Deepika Padukone Ranveer Singh
8. Gen Next *ing Ranbir Kapoor Anushka Sharma
9. Gen Next *ing Alia Bhatt Parineeti Chopra
10. Gen Next *ing Arjun Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra
11. Pitch Perfect *ing Priyanka Chopra, Ayushmann Khuranna
12. Sisters doing it for themselves *ing Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Gauri Shinde
13. Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein *ing Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha
14. Two States *ing Ileana D’cruz, Asin
15. Main Khiladi Tu Anari *ing Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar
16. Phool aur Kaante *ing Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha
17. Indias Most Desirable *ing John Abrahams, Hrithik Roshan
18. Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi *ing Kajol, Aishwarya Rai
19. Ajnabee *ing Bipasha Basu, Imran Khan
20. The return of the queen *ing Madhuri Dixit, Karsima Kapoor, Sridevi

EPISODE 1: TEES MAAR KHAN *ing – Salman Khan

Salman is the present, and the present is Salman. Though Sallu has always been one of the most popular actors, and did an extended cameo in Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, the Dabangg star has yet to appear in a season of Koffee With Karan. Given his current success ratio and unmatched popularity, Salman should feature in the premiere episode of season 4, preferably solo, but his brothers, Sohail and Arbaaz can feature as additional guests to give us a perspective on Chulbul Pandey Himself. With Salmans cheeky wit and Karans repertoire of firebrand questions, surely this will be one of the best episodes yet.

EPISODE 2: MY NAME IS BALAN *ing SRK + Vidya Balan

On one hand, we have Kjo’s favourite- Shahrukh Khan – who needs no introduction. On the other hand, Vidya Balan, who is quickly becoming the flagbearer for women orientated cinema, one hit at a time. This is one pair we’ve all been longing to see on the silver screen for years, yet for some reason; directors seem uninterested in pairing them.. Hopefully seeing the two of them on KWK will be nothing but ‘Entertainment, Entertainment, and Entertainment’.

EPISODE 3: THE OUTSIDERS *ing Kangna Ranaut, Sunny Leone, Nawazudin Siddiqui.

The changing face of Bollywood over the past decade or so, has allowed these unconventional stars to emerge. From pornstar Sunny Leone, to Kangna Ranaut whos struggled to grab a foothold in the industry for years, and Nawazdin Siddiqui, the unconventional looking actor that’s taken us by storm with his recent performances, these bollywood outsiders all have a unique story to tell. Kangna , who is fast becoming one of the most entertaining celebs to read interviews of, with her various jibes (Blue blooded babas, married people that should be seeing psychiatrists), alluded to her struggle on Indias Most Desirable. Despite being one of the easiest bollywood targets for jokes, the girl can act, and her story is admirable. Sunny Leone (more popularly known as Funny leone) has got to be the most unconventional Heroine in the history of Bollywood, with her background of other cinematic avenues ;), but despite her past, she’s hardly someone you can ignore. Nawazudiin Siddiqui, is undoubtedly the most talented new actor on the block, receiving accolades and awards for all his films last year whether it was Gangs of Wasseypur, Talaash or Kahaani. Would love to see these three ‘outsiders’ that are making a name for themselves despite the sea of star kids, together on KWK.

EPISODE 4: FROM BOOM TO DHOOM *ing Aamir Khan – Katrina Kaif
On one end, we have the perfectionist himself, Aamir Khan, on the other hand, Katrina Kaif, one of the most bankable & popular actresses of today. I can’t wait till Dhoom 3 releases to see the hot upcoming pair together. With aamirs killer instincts, and Katrinas commercial script sense, its bound to be a dhamaka, ironically one is known as the best actors of all time, and the other is hardly known for their talent, however they look surprisingly good together, so who cares.

EPISODE 5: EK MAIN HOON AUR EKK TU *ing Emraan Hashmi, Kareena Kapoor
Certainly one of the most unlikely pairings ever, that’s going to be hitting the screens in 2014, Kareena Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi. Bebo, the firebrand actress, began her career like any quintessential heroine of Bollywood did, going for a mix of glamour and talent in her quick rise to success, while on the other hand, Emraan Hashmi, whom success never alluded, never made it high up on the popularity lists, being known more for his onscreen smooches than anything else. ‘The Dirty Picture’ changed it all, and the Casanova Emraan shall be seen romancing the style Diva in a big banner project helmed by Akshay Roy. Their different cinematic backgrounds and contrasting personalities is bound to make for an interesting episode, maybe we’ll even find out if they’ll be smooching onscreen soon?

EPISODES 6- 10: GEN NEXT (Sonam-Varun), (Deepika, Ranveer) (Anushka, Ranbir) (Arjun Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra) ( Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt)

With the next generation of Actors & Actresses making waves with their popularity and amazing performances, I’ve paired them up in different combos. Sonam and Varun, a pair im dying to see together onscreen, who may reveal the secrets they tease each other about on twitter. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who individually were two of the most entertaining guests in Season 3, are a must see, esp as the rumour mill indicates that there is more than just onscreen chemistry between the two. Ranbir Kapoor and Anuskha Sharma, easily the most talented pair of the lot and potentially most good looking pair, are still waiting for the much delayed ‘Bombay Velvet’ to take off. Till then, the vibrant personalities can entertain us together, and possibly spark a romance too ;) Parineeti and Alia can share some girlie talk together, while Arjun Kapoor and Siddharth Malhotra talk about being bollywoods new Blue eyed Boys!

EPISODE 11 : PITCH PERFECT *ing Ayushmann and Priyanka
Priyanka Chopra, who easily one of the best actresses currently, and Ayushmann Khurranna, unanimously deemed as the best debutante of 2012 for Vicky Donor, share a common musical talent. Despite the silly lyrics, Priyanka’s international musical debut, ‘In My City’ became quite popular, and Ayushmann’s ‘Pani Da’ and ‘Sadi galli’ have become the rage of the nation. Would love to see em duet!

EPISODE 12: SISTERS DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES *ing Reema Kagti, Gauri shinde, Zoya Akhtar

As traditional in all KWK seasons, an episode featuring the hottest directors of the day is a must. Barring Zoya Akhar & Farah Khan, the female directors of the industry have been largely ignored. And with ‘Talaash’ ‘English Vinglish’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ being pathbreaking, and commercially successful, my directors picks are Reema , Zoya and Gauri Shinde.

EPISODE 13: kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein *ing Amitji and Rekha
Two of the most iconic Bollywood stars of all time – Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, who were part of one of the greatest mystery love affairs of all time. Though Big B has always been mum on the subject, Rekhaji has in the past let out little snippets of their affair. Kjo’s attempt to get Rekha-ji on his show has previously failed; maybe a Koffee date with Big B will seal the deal for the yesteryear sex symbol.

EPISODE 14: TWO STATES *ing Asin, Ileana D’cruz
Two popular Telegu Actresses, Asin and Ileana D’cruz, are making their way to the top in bollywood. Asin, has been a part of multiple hit films, while Ileana has won multiple accolades for her debut in 2012’s Barfi.

EPISODE 15: MAIN KHILADI TU ANARI *ing Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar
Easily the two actors with the best comic timing onscreen, these two will be a treat to see displaying their innate sense of humour together on KWK.

EPISODE 16: PHOOL AUR KANTE *ing AJAY DEVGAN – SONAKSHI SINHA
The two recent ‘golden kela’ award winners, are bound to make for a ‘must watch show’. The reserved Ajay Devgn, opened up on season 3, displaying his cheeky wit, and insight on superstar wife, Kajol, making it one of the most loved episodes. Sonakshi, certainly one of the most sporting current stars, who acknowledges and appreciates the multitude of jokes aimed in her direction, from weight issues, to the size of her forehead and her love for older men – certainly has volumes to share about her quick rise to success.

EPISODE 17: INDIA’S MOST DESIRABLE *ING HRITHIK, JOHN
Widely acknowledged as the most desirable men in Bollywood, Hrithik & John have topped the sexiest list for years in succession, always just beating the other to the top of the list. While John’s body was his only claim to fame, he is now becoming one of the most sought after producers with the recent success of ‘Vicky Donor’. Hrithik , however, made a historic debut, giving all his contemporaries a run for his money over the years with his breathtaking performances and runaway blockbusters. The two haven’t shared screen space together yet, and this may be the only chance to see Indias most desiable men together!

EPISODE 18: KUCH KHATTI KUCH MEETHI *ing Aishwarya , Kajol
The most beautiful woman in the world meets the spiciest actress ever. One is ever diplomatic, the other never minces her words. Theyre the prototypes for successful actresses post marriage, and in the wait for their return to the screens, lets watch the irrevent Kajol and elegant Aishwarya bond.

EPISODE 19: AJNABEE *ING BIPASHA, IMRAN
Bipasha Basu, is easily the sexiest actress in the industry, while Imran is one of the ‘Guy next door’ style heroes. Thought the two have nothing in common, id love to see em chatting over Koffee, with Bipasha dishing out her streetwise views on everything, while Imran shares his story about trying to make a name for himself under the Shadow of multitalented superstar Uncle Aamir.

EPISODE 20: THE RETURN OF THE QUEEN- season finale Karisma, Madhuri, Sridevi

One of the latest trends in Bollywood, is to make a comeback, and almost every yesteryear diva is trying to jump on the bandwagon. Whether it’s the dancing queen ‘Madhuri Dixit’, or the ‘Bhoot’ star Manisha Koraila. Though some came back with a bang(Sridevi – English Vinglish), Others efforts went unnoticed (Karisma-Dangerous Isshq, Madhuri-Aaja Nachle). Imagine seeing these three most prolific yesteryear actresses sharing the same couch!

Those were my picks for Season four of KWK, who do u want to see =D

Madhuri Dixit's Best Dance Number?

$
0
0

The great Pandit Birju Maharaj has called her the “best Bollywood dancer due to her versatility”. Saroj Khan has continually stated her as being her favourite protégé while other choreographers from Shiamak Davar to Vaibhavi Merchant to Farah Khan swear her. Her songs, many of them more than two decades old, are still played with uninterrupted frequency in marriages, functions, radio channels and award shows enjoying the same enviable popularity they had all those years ago.

Her breathtaking beauty, her famed million-dollar smile, the playful shimmer in her lustrous brown eyes, her celebrated acting prowess, unmatchable box-office appeal among other surreal charms have attributed in making a ’la Dixit a yardstick for greatness. Clearly however the charisma and enduring legacy of Madhuri is relentless and synonymous with her dancing prowess. Her trained skill set (as a proficient Kathak dancer) and inherent ability to marry technique with impulses and allure has created a formidable oeuvre of dances to support and study. Balancing uninhibited oomph, innate grace, a brilliant sense of rhythm, Madhuri of the million-dollar smile, of the radiant expressions, of the nimble, abandoned dance moves, is a complete package. Not just did she have her share of superhit songs, but so iconic became her dance performances that gestures like the hurried-heartbeat of Dhak dhak or the tantalising sway of Chole Ke Peeche themselves became turning points, and be it a classically toned mujra or a complete act of seduction among the haystacks, Madhuri rocks it.

Six years after her not-so-successful comeback in 2007’s Aaja Nachle, the Dhak Dhak Girl gets ready to slip on her dancing shoes, ready to awe the world all over again this time accompanied by Ranbir Kapoor in a song from this year’s much hyped Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in a song titled “Ghagra” choreographed by Farah Khan. So in honour of Ghagra, let’s rewind back to Madhuri magic and take a look at some of her best and most celebrated dance numbers.

“EK DO TEEN”-TEZAAB(1988):-

There’s a good reason why Madhuri in her latest song is introduced as Mohini. A quarter of a century since Mohini enlivened the screen in Tezaab with her wild antics, the song that made Madhuri-with her spirited dance and myriad expressions into an overnight sensation, remains as popular as ever never having lost an ounce of it’s original charm.India had flipped for the Ding-Dong-Ding song, and then there was no looking back. Sheesh, however can Mads make something inexplicably boring like counting the days of a month more fun than ever?

“O RAMJI BADA DUKH DEENA”-RAM LAKHAN(1989):-

Although her Radha was not a major character in Subhash Ghai's melodrama about two brothers and their wronged mother, Madhuri contributed immensely in the glamour department with her two solo dances. While many applauded her blend of intricate moves and effective aggression in Bekhabar Bewafa, it was her subtle nuances “O Ramji” that caught everyone’s attention and made us feel her pain through her resolute maturity.

“GAZAR NE KIYA HAI ISHARA”-TRIDEV(1989):-

The same year Madhuri donned a pair of fabulous transparent harem pants alongside leggy stunners like Sangeeta Bijlani and Sonam in the hugely popular climax song of 1989’s Tridev, only to steal the show with her obviously polished dancing skills despite of being in a two bit role.

“HUMKO AAJ KAL HAI INTEZAAR”-SAILAAB(1990):-

The one memory that sticks out from this otherwise forgettable Aditya Pancholi starrer is the image of Madhuri’s dreamy gaze and leisurely drawl while sashaying her nimble outline in a traditional Maharashtrian fisherwoman attire to Bappi Lahiri’s sultry composition.Others from Katrina Kaif to Antara Mali to Chitrangada Singh have tried to replicate the same magic, none coming even close to the original. Clearly the ‘koli’ girl has never looked this hot.

“DUM DUMMA DUM”-DIL(1990):-

To watch two of Bollywood’s biggest superstars in their early 20s swaying to peppy tunes is a sign for cash flow at the box-office. The makers of Dil recapitulated on the chemistry between it’s two young stars in a bid to sell even more tickets by adding a new song, Dum Dumma Dum where a plucky Madhuri take on a smug Aamir Khan in the war of moves, and re-released the prints thus making this part teenybopper-part intense romance a favourite among the youth.

“TAMMA TAMMA LOGE”-THAANEDAAR(1990):-

Bappi Lahiri's Tamma Tamma Loge is a blatant rip-off of Mory Kante's Tama Tama but that's a technicality you're willing to overlook for a few minutes while watching the contrast between Madhuri's high-energy albeit effortless shimmy as opposed to Sanjay Dutt's labored ones in its glittery visual. Most commendable is their co-ordination in the steps involving a chair towards the end.And then there’s even the mullet that Mads dons.

“TU SHAYAR HAI”-SAAJAN(1991):-

Perhaps matching steps with the diva proved to be too much of a trouble for Sanjay Dutt,as he relegated himself to clicking pictures of Mads setting the stage on fire in an array of glitzy costumes and exultant moods to convey the smitten state of Pooja to titillating melody in this Salman Khan-Madhuri Dixit-Sanjay Dutt 1991 romantic starrer.

“DHAK DHAK KARNE LAGA”-BETA(1992):-

Two decades after she burned the screen in a midriff-exposing orange ghagra choli, it’s not an uncommon sight to find men still fogging up behind their thick glasses when they see Madhuri go Dhak-Dhak.She was assertive about her sexuality as well, the conviction in the smooth gyrations of her willowy figure and come-hither expressions. Few people can make a song so lustful and suggestive an imagery of sexual fantasy without being vulgar. But that’s Madhuri magic for you-sexy without trying too hard culminating in the ultimate fantasy for teenage boys in the 90s.

“CHOLI KE PEECHE”-KHALNAYAK(1993):-

Technically the best choreographed and executed dance on this list, Neena Gupta's contentious question and Madhuri Dixit's camouflaged reply ruffled a lot of conservative feathers in the early nineties. Nonetheless, the song from Subhash Ghai's film went on to become a huge rage. Lending the proceedings a perfect dose of chutzpah and mischief, Madhuri's lissome elegance shines through the evocative temperament of its contents. Since then the song’s enjoyed quite a romp, including a remixed version by A.R. Rahaman in the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire.

“CHANNE KE KHET MEIN”-ANJAAM(1994):-

Madhuri herself has stated this song as being one of her personal favourites out of her countless superhits. The agile beauty shows off her efficient footwork yet again while communicating the playful innuendoes of Channe Ke Khet beside an awestruck young Shah Rukh Khan. While the movie, was nothing short of a blood fest, it featured a couple of songs worthy of note most primarily being this foot tapping number featuring Madhuri.

“DIDI TERA DEVAR DEWAANA”-HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN…..!(1994):-

Back in 1994 when HAHK flooded the box-office with an excess of cash flow it was termed as being a 3+hour long “Wedding Album” with weddings and celebrations marking the A to Z of Sooraj Barjatya's beloved classic. Even so, among the many festive notes it hits Didi tera devar ranks as the most popular. Madhuri's expressive range and impeccable comic timing comes forth with glorious relish and abandon in her playful depiction of a pregnant woman followed by a flirtatious banter with Salman Khan in its ever-so spunky picturisation. Along with Mads’s shimmering purple sari, the song itself became a rage among wedding circles and has remained a staple ever since.

“ANKHIYAN MILAUN”-RAJA(1995):-

This was when Madhuri was termed as being the “Female Bachchan” for her ability to make Raja-a film without a coherent plot and a major male star into one of 1995’s biggest hits. The queen of hearts shakes a leg and butt with much gusto and is so much in a sync with the rhythm that it’s hard to notice anything else as she effortlessly diverts our attention from the dreadful dancing skills of Sanjay Kapoor. I doubt that any other actress would’ve been able to do those complex eyeball movements, without having them pop out of their sockets.

“MERA PIYA GHAR AAYA”-YAARANA(1995):-

This appallingly lousy remake of Sleeping With The Enemy featuring Rishi Kapoor and directed by David Dhawan nonetheless was a taint on Madhuri’s glorious career and you’re forgiven for not remembering it. The focal point of the movie though-Madhuri’s live wire act and unmistakable zest while pounding her feet to the beats of Mera Piya Ghar Aaya O Ramji, is one that you cannot in any chance forget. Clearly she had a ball of time while filming this one.

“THE DANCE OF ENVY AND KATHAK SOLO”-DIL TO PAGAL HAI(1997):-

Yash Chopra's Mills & Boonesque romance had a bunch of foot-tapping dance numbers, alongside featuring a faceoff between two 90s queens and a Kathak solo by Madhuri. Madhuri and Karisma Kapoor engage in The Dance of Envy under choreographer Shiamak Davar's keen eye. It’s always great to see two fabulous dancers in a faceoff, plus not just the synchronisation but the energy and complex vibe between their characters that makes it all the more alluring. Then again Madhuri’s solo where she fluidly shows off a few complex,high-energy Kathak steps to a blend of SRK’s frenzied drum beats and tinkling sounds of a ghungru shows her exact prowess as a trained classical dancer and reminds us why she after all is an enigma and miracle all the way.

“CHAK DHOOM DHOOM”-DIL TO PAGAL HAI(1997):-

Another great dance number featuring Madhuri and SRK from DTPH, intricately showed us Madhuri’s innate sense of rhythm. Featuring with a couple of kids under the storming rainfall, you can clearly see Madhuri having a blast while matching King Khan’s steps yet retaining a grace and charm that only she can possess. No wonder than that this was a kiddie’s favourite back in ’97.

"MAKHNA"-BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN(1998):-

Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda and Madhuri Dixit as herself in a cameo match steps in 1998's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan song "Makhna" to make a song that embraces it's goofiness with abandon. And even though Big B has two left feet, the spontaneity and carefree abandon with which Madhuri and Govinda make the song their own and have a blast while at their playful banter is what makes it so bloody enjoyable.

“QUE SERA SERA”-PUKAR(2000):-

The best dancer in Bollywood with the best dancer in India-what a combination, eh?Speaking of terrific dancers with distinct style, nothing like a Madhuri-Prabhudeva combination is there? For the first time in her career do you see a male co-star matching up to Madhuri’s prowess, yet again Madhuri’s skill is such that she matches steps and attitude with India’s MJ to sizzle in the spectacularly choreographed Que Sera Sera and yet manages to stand out. What a miracle eh?

“BADI MUSHKIL”-LAJJA(2001):-

In Raj Kumar Santoshi's Lajja Madhuri plays Janki, a theatre actress and during one of her interactions with Manisha Koirala breaks into an impromptu jig that reiterates her stature as a dancer par excellence and our capacity to be enamored each and every time. A brilliantly choreographed film with a blend of high energy classical movements and western dance, the euphoria experienced when you watch Mads shimmy with abandon is one you’ll find hard to match.

“DOLA RE”-DEVDAS(2002):-

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand and ostentatious take on the famed Bengali novella, took quite a few poetic licences including the preposterous one of Paro and Chandramukhi waltzing together. The only thing that saved it from disaster-Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai,two of Tinsletown’s best dancers matching steps with each other in Saroj Khan’s astoundingly well choreographed song that fetched her a National Award. The splendid duo pitches in their best show, without any attempt to outdo another, demonstrating a genuine commitment for the art form. What a sight for sore eyes.

“MAAR DALA”-DEVDAS(2002):-

Maar Dala indeed .Madhuri shows us why she is THE quintessential Bollywood heroine. For in one song she accomplishes everything a Bollywood actress is supposed to be. She’s never looked this ethereal before, she’s never acted so splendidly before and yes she’s never moved so much as a dream before. Setting her beat to Saroj Khan’s complex moves, Madhuri’s classical Kathak training pays off as she exhibits fluidity and grace even while executing the most complex moves, with the myriad expressions on her countenance changing with every beat, expressing pain and anguish through her glimmering eyes. Madhuri’s pure poetry in motion. Sublime.

“AAJA NACHLE”-AAJA NACHLE(2007):-

After a five-year long absence, Madhuri returned in a subject befitting of her skills. The mostly dance-oriented theme of Yashraj Films's Aaja Nachle felt like an ideal comeback for the star. And though the movie bombed, everyone had nice things to say about the actress and her marvelous show, packed with oomph, pizzazz and elan, in its catchy title track. To watch Madhuri Dixit show her jalwa on the dance floor again, alone is worth the price of admission no matter the disaster the film was.
