Let's Discuss: Madhuri Dixit & Juhi Chawla on Koffee with Karan

Yesteryear's top actresses coming together, getting chatty and sharing the same platform - that's something that possibly only Karan Johar can manage! Yes, this week we saw Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit on Karan's couch. Juhi made her debut on the show while it was Madhuri's second time there.

While KJo asks newcomers what took them so long to come on the show, this time he was on the receiving end. Before he could ask Juhi, she asked him what took him so long to call her! Even though it was her first, she looked completely at ease and happily answered whatever she was asked. That's the thing about both these lovely ladies - so calm, composed and dignified. It was a delight to see them on a show like this!

Karan spoke to them about their illustrious careers which took us way back to those times. They spoke about the current state of Bollywood, their co-actors and their husbands! In spite of being so popular among their fellow co-actors, it's interesting to see how both of them chose to marry outside the industry.

Here are a few highlights from the show -

"Success had gone to my head and I made stupid decisions." - Juhi Chawla

Little did we know about Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla's cold war which started with a prank on the sets of Ishq. The duo went without speaking to each other for 4 - 5 years.

Juhi Chawla never happened to do a film with Salman Khan. When asked what their equation has been like, she said that for the longest time she felt that he looked through her!

"We were very courteous but we didn't know each other. We hardly ever met." - Madhuri Dixit on Juhi

"Back then, I didn't take up a film because she (Madhuri) was in it"- Juhi. Yes, she was offered Karishma Kapoor's role in Dil Toh Pagal Hain which she denied as she didn't want to play second lead to Madhuri. However, today she thinks it was a silly decision she made.

"Couldn't have handled looking at my husband looking into the mirror as much as I did" - Juhi on why she chose to not marry an actor.

When asked which young actor would they like to romance, both of them chose Ranbir Kapoor.

When it came to acting skills, Priyanka ranked highest while Katrina ranked the lowest in both their books.

When asked which current actress does she see herself in, Juhi said "Anushka Sharma"

Juhi thought Parineeti Chopra needs a stylist, Mallika Sherawat needs a therapist and Nargis Fakhri needs an acting coach.

"Kai Po Che" - Overrated film according to Juhi

Juhi and Madhuri chose Salman as their brother, Shah Rukh as their husband and Aamir as their friend.

There was a video compiled for them where we saw the young set of actors - Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, Arjun Kapoor and Imran Khan talk about their love for these two ladies! First crushes, love, lust - they spoke about it all and had Juhi and Madhuri blushing! What came as a surprise was Ranveer's dance dedicated to the both of them! He had everyone in splits with his latkas and jhatkas!

Now this is something that has never happened before! Madhuri Dixit who was recently in Bhopal with producer Anubhav Sinha to promote her upcoming film Gulab Gang was asked to leave the VIP lounge at Bhopal airport. Yes, Mid Day reports that the actress was told to leave the lounge after she refused to click pictures with an airport official.

Madhuri and Anubhav were returning to Mumbai when this happened. “How can someone do such a thing to a woman? It is completely unfair to her. An official walked up to us and escorted us to the VIP lounge. We weren’t even going there. He then asked Madhuri for a photograph. Madhuri’s manager, Minaxi, refused, saying that Madhuri was very tired. The man then got angry and asked us to leave the lounge immediately" explained Anubhav.

“Fortunately, it was time for our flight, but what happened was completely uncalled for. People don’t understand that stars are humans too, and you can’t expect them to behave the way you want. She was tired after the hectic day we had,” he added. They even asked the airport official his name but he refused to speak up.

Gulaab Gang Movie Review

Here is the review for Gulaab Gang. Watch out this space for more updates!

Ratings:1.5/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site:CNN IBN

A handful of scenes are nicely shot, like one in a lake, where a local politician's rapist son finds himself surrounded by a few of Rajjo's revenge-seeking gang members who emerge dramatically from under the water. But such portions are few and far between in this dull film. And if you must watch this film, watch it for Juhi Chawla's inspired performance; it's the only bright spot in Gulaab Gang. I'm going with one-and-a-half out of five. Muddled and forgettable.

Ratings:2/5 Review By: Anupama Chopra Site:Star World (Hindustan Times)

The result is an ineffectual and messy ode to women empowerment in which women, with nicely styled hair, maim, kill, fight elections and in between find the time to sing and dance. For a real dose of women empowerment, watch Gulabi Gang, a terrific documentary on Sampat Pal, which is still running in select theaters. For Gulaab Gang, I’m going with two stars.

Ratings:-- Review By: Komal Nahata Site:Zee ETC Bollywood Business

Another point which will definitely go against the film is that except for the highly evolved audience, the other viewers will not appreciate the beating up of men by ladies – this, because of the male-dominated society Indians live in. For the same reason, lack of a hero in the drama will tell on the box-office performance of the film, that too in a very pronounced manner. On the whole, Gulaab Gang is too dull, dry and boring to entertain. It will be anything but in the pink of health at the ticket windows. It will flop miserably at the box-office.

Rating:/ Review By:Sneha May Francis Site:Emirates 24/7

Although the character could have appeared jaded, Juhi plays it with impeccable restraint and concentrates on her wavering temperament with incredible flair, making this her most significant performance to date.
The supporting cast of fairly unknown names are impressive, especially Rajjo’s two loyal soldiers. Even though ‘Gulaab Gang’ has so much going for it, it fails to win our applause.

Rating:/ Review By:Manjusha Radhakrishnan Site:Gulf News

What’s also unrealistic is the physical prowess of these pink-clad messiahs. Even if their burly male opponents have a gun, the women somehow emerge victorious with just batons as weapons. Rajjo’s perfectly style hair that cascades down her back in waves also remains intact despite all that roughing up. But if you can jump over such creases, then Gulaab Gang makes for a fun watch.

Rating:3/5 Review By:Mohar Basu Site:Koimoi

Gulaab Gang is not unforgettable but not unwatchable either. With many euphoric moments of utter jubiliation, the film’s stronghold is Madhuri and Juhi with individually mettlesome performances and the friskily excitable chemistry together. Though the film fails to use its scope rightly and delivers an extremely creased up affair. Far from perfect but engrossing nevertheless.

Rating:1/5 Review By:Shubhra Gupta Site:Indian Express

‘Gulab Gang’ is actually the old-style good vs evil story, styled in the tired way these films have been for the longest time.
Madhuri Dixit’s ‘Gulaab Gang’ has nothing to do with Sampat Pal’s real-life ‘Gulaabi Gang’, even if both wear pink saris, and fight for women’s rights in a rural North Indian outpost. The difference between the two films ( and ‘Gulaabi Gang’ did the smart thing by releasing just ahead of the Bollywood take) is stark : the first , featuring the plain-faced Sampat, is a hard-hitting documentary ; Madhuri Dixi’s gang, on the other hand, is as make-believe as make-believe can get. ‘Gulaab Gang’ is faking it.

Rating:3/5 Review By:Gayatri Sankar Site:Zee News

Overall, ‘Gulaab Gang’ may not be a typical film meant to taste success at the Box Office. The film does speak about issues that need urgent attention, but may not be enough to draw people to the theatres. But Juhi Chawla’s performance in the film isn’t worth a miss. So watch it for her.

Rating:/5 Review By:Deepanjana Pal Site:Firstpost

Gulaab Gang was make a good, old fashioned, masala film, in which two women would go head to head instead of two men.
There's nothing in Gulaab Gang that you haven't seen Bollywood heroes and villains do for years. Chawla delivers dialogues with slow, dramatic menace, just as bad guys have for decades.
Gulaab Gang also has some excellent fight sequences. Gulaab Gang is an earnest film that takes itself seriously. Gulaab Gang is exactly what its director wants it to be — yet another chip off the Bollywood block, just one that's pretty in pink.

I think I'm more beautiful than Madhuri: yesteryear actress Farheen

Farheen, yesteryear star who is best known for her role in the 1992 film 'Jaan Tere Naam'. After working in a handful of movies in Bollywood and some down South, Farheen quietly quit the movie scene and settled down with the very much married, former cricketer, Manoj Prabhakar.

After a good two decades and two children, Farheen is back to try her luck in the 'Jaan Tere Naam' sequel as a mother of the heroine. Farheen, who now lives in Delhi with her family of hubby Manoj, children Raahil (16) and Manavansh (11), step son Rohan (25) and his family says she could not say no to director Deepak Balraj Vij when he came up with the offer.

The actress who was once considered a Madhuri Dixit lookalike talks of her comeback at a time when Madhuri has also returned to the big screen. In an interview to Mumbai Mirror she says, "Madhuri is beautiful, but I think I'm more beautiful, even my sons say so. Had I not got married I would have given her good takkar. She is an actress par excellence but I had age on my side as I entered the industry seven years after she did. But today, I don't think I resemble her. My hair is longer now and when I met Shatrughan Sinha recently, he told me that I look like Suchitra Sen. That's a real compliment."
